Amma

Kadalora

Mother Kali, who meditates on the seashore, Shakti Amma
compassionately protects me. As a flower unfolds its petals,
Shakti Amma removes the dirt with the water of devotion.
O Mother Kali!  Our divine Mother!

May you become the boat that carries us across the ocean
of transmigration.  May you become the ladder to uplift the
downtrodden.  May you remove the dizziness of our forgetfulness.
May thoughts of you grow in my heart.

You grant boons that uplift whoever takes refuge in you and
Calls you their own.  The monks and sadhus also praise you
as the pure one.  O Mother Kali, you are the giver of bliss,
our Divine Mother!

The Green Friends team is actively recruiting for Two Newsletter Seva Positions, with a goal of publishing an August 2021 newsletter,

  1. We are looking for a person to receive, curate and organize materials starting with an August edition.
  2. And we are also in need of a person to format the collected materials for online publication.

For more information or to volunteer, please reach out to Iswari at ammaredmondprogram@gmail.com. Thank you for considering this short term seva.

Namaste Farm

Garden Beds & Tree Planting

With Amma’s Grace, a nearly 5-acre piece of land on Lost Lake Road in Maltby is transforming into the Namaste Herb Farm.  The farm has many established gardens, one of which is a large vegetable garden called “The Friends Garden”, created by and tended together with Tirtha. The goal is for this garden is to furnish produce for friends and neighbors. Our other gardens are dedicated to herbs, flowers and berries.  A few gardens are a combination of many different plants.

We have planted dozens of trees around the property, including apple, pear, peach, plum, Juju, Medlar apricot, almond, walnut, Paw paw, mulberry, Gingko, Madrone, Linden, Japanese Maples, oak trees, as well as pines, firs, redwoods, cedars and more.

Composting for Soil Enrichment

Soil on the property was very degraded when we first started farming. Tirtha, who has a permaculture business and has taken compost building classes in San Ramon from Dr. Elaine Ingram, was kind enough to mentor us in Dr. Ingram’s composting method.  Each compost pile is created with a special formula consisting of brown and green vegetation, and nitrogen. Please contact us if you are interested in learning how to make compost this way as we have classes to teach the method as soon as the pandemic is over.  Another way we are improving the soil is by hosting some adorable chickens named: Sawyer, Penelope, Sun, and Hurley. These beautiful hens are doing their best to help out around the herb farm, keeping the soil happy.

Namaste Farm

Interpretive Herb Garden

The two large herb gardens are designed not only to grow herbs to be utilized in teas, tinctures, salves, soaps, ointments, fire cider, etc.; but also to educate people interested in herbs.  There are informative signs about each herb, including their medicinal qualities where applicable, throughout the gardens.  Anyone who wants to tour the gardens to learn more is welcome.

Namaste Farm

Always Open Farm Stand

We have a small building near the entrance to the property which serves as a farm stand.  We have many different products for sale, created from the plants in the gardens.  Products include: teas, soap, ciders, balms, sachets, tinctures; as well as plants, vegetables, and fruit.  The stand is always open and all proceeds are donated to  Amma's Embracing the World initiatives.

If anyone would like to help make products for the farm stand, you are more than welcome to get involved -- this is a community effort!

What if there were no hypothetical questions?

I went to the zoo yesterday and I saw a piece of toast in a cage.
When I asked the keeper why, she said, "It was bread in captivity!"

Corduroy pillows are making headlines.

A thief broke into the local police station and stole all the lavatory equipment.
A spokesperson was quoted as saying, "We have absolutely nothing to go on."

No sense being pessimistic.
It won’t help anyway.

Amma loves for her children to be happy and laugh!
Special thanks to Surabhi, Shawn, Chitroop and all those
who have been sharing these fun jokes!
