Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya's New Year's Message
We just celebrated the dawn of the new year a few days ago. New Year is the time where we stand on the cusp of the past and the future. Amma in Her New Year's message said

May the new year usher in goodwill, prosperity, health, happiness, peace and abundance for everyone, in every endeavor. May Mother Nature forgive our mistakes and bless us with a year in which there are no natural disasters. May everyone have a full stomach and a roof over his head. May there be peace in every corner of the earth. Maybe my children think such prayers are unrealistic. But it is dreams like these that show us how to direct our life and efforts...
Read Her full message here.

Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya Amma says that even though peace and love are not a reality in today's world, we have the right to dream of a world filled with love and peace. Amma says that for dreams to become a reality we should start making positive changes in our life.

The new year is a good time to introspect our past actions, thoughts and feelings. We should use our discernment, be objective, and not be emotional while looking at the past. We can keep crying about our past but that will not give us the impetus to move forward. Our bodies are getting old which we cannot help, but we should not let our minds get old. The mind gets old when we are depressed. It gets old when we resign and stop fighting. It gets old when we think that we have no more strength. It gets old when we hold on to our past and cannot move forward. There is a beautiful story to illustrate this point.

The employees of a company returned to work after New Year's Day and were amazed at a big sign that was hanging on the door. The sign read, "Yesterday died the person who was holding you back in the company. We invite you to take part in the funeral which will be held outside." At first the employees were sad to hear about the death of a coworker, but were soon curious to find out who held them back in the company. They were happy that the person who held them back was gone. One after the other they stepped up to the casket and when they looked inside, they were shocked and stood frozen. What was inside the casket? A mirror. Each person saw their own face in the casket.

There is only one person who can hold you back -- yourself. You are also the person who can help yourself. Life does not change when your friend or family changes; it changes only when you change. Life changes when you cross boundaries that you have never crossed before; when you understand you are the only person responsible for your own life. The most important relationship you can have in this life is with yourself. Observe yourself, push yourself forward, and don't fear the challenges and hardships.

The way you deal with life makes all the difference. This is what Amma is telling us. Even if you start dreaming about a peaceful world which may not exist now, you can make it real with the efforts that you put forth. We can transform the dream of a peaceful world into a reality with the effort we all put together. Amma says that each one of us should make a positive change in our lives. If we do this, it will mark the beginning of a new age. Amma has given us the assignment of being the messengers of peace and love in this world. Let us move forward this new year with the understanding that we are the messengers of love and peace.
