|Questions & Answers: Compassion
|With Br. Dayamrita Chaitanya
Swamiji, what are the practical ways to practice compassion in our lives?
Real compassion is when we realize that we are one with one another, when we understand our true identity.
When we attain that state of oneness, we automatically reach out to help others.
That is compassion. When there is a pain in the left hand, the right hand goes to soothe the pain without any effort.
This is the compassion that we see in Amma.

Om Namah Shivaya
The Maltby residents invite everyone to a day of prayers for World Peace during the solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21 at the Maltby property (Map).
6am - 8am: Ganapati Homa, before the eclipse.
This Homa is open to all and registration is optional.
Registration is only needed if you would like the pujarini to set a personal intention (or sankalpa) for yourself or another individual.
The registration fee is $65. If you would like to register, please contact Krishnan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- 9am: During the eclipse, call and response Archana, Japa and guided Ma-Om meditation.
- 12 Noon: After the eclipse we will break our fast with a simple and delicious lunch followed by a walk around the Archana trail for those who want.
- 3pm: Archana, meditation, and some gentle Yoga.
- 6pm Onward: Arati followed by a light dinner.
While many will be out trying to get a glimpse of the eclipse, we are going to follow the Vedic Rishi's recommendation to use this special time that will amplify the power of our spiritual practices. Our Sankalpa will be for peace in the world, and Amma has explained that when we pray and meditate in a group -- the effect increases exponentially.
Please join us for the whole day or any part of it. Anyone who is coming from a distance is welcome to come the night before, just let us know.
Any questions? Please contact Yasas at email@example.com.
For those attending, please note the following:
The Homa will be outside so please bring some warm layers.
It will start promptly at 6am so please come at 5:30am so everyone will be seated and settled in time.
Traditionally food is made fresh after an eclipse, for this reason we will not have a potluck, but instead make some simple fresh dishes.
If you want to bring something, uncooked items like fruit or nuts for a fruit salad are best.
Our neighbors who share our gravel driveway are sensitive to the noise of cars on the road.
Kindly, when coming and leaving, drive very slowly.
This also helps preserve the road and conserve resources for other property maintenance.

The hour long Q&A session was equally special and dwelled on sadhana (spiritual practices), having a guru, the benefits of an ashram, and the upcoming eclipse, to name a few.
We thank Swamiji for gracing us with his divine presence and look forward to many more visits.
