|Maltby Property Update
Fall is here and the grounds of the Maltby property residence is beautiful today as the sun is shining.
The garden is also following the season, moving into a dormant state except for a few winter crops that have been planted. The deer are still visiting the property regularly.
Many people have been asking: “When will we have a Center?” Here is an update on the timeline.
We are completing our due diligence on all that is required for a successful conditional use permit (CUP) application.
That permit request will be filed with Snohomish county as soon as we have approved plans for a hall.
That due diligence review includes our planning for the road, septic, environment, fire and other items required by the county codes.
We anticipate completing the engineering and other architectural reviews by end of year. The timeline, once we submit the request for our conditional use permit, is in the range of 8-9 months.
Once we are cleared to use the property in the manner consistent with MA Center properties, we will begin the process of building out the rest of the property.
In the meantime, the residence will be getting some much-needed face lifting once the construction permitting process is cleared. The residence was built a while back and needs some updating on electric, insulation, ducting, some structural shoring up and other punch-list items. This process is separate from the CUP.
As we are using the property within its current residential zoning, we only need the usual construction permits.
Consistent with MA Centers around the world, residents along with others have been working the land to maximize its sustainability. Over the last year, the residents have been watching the land and growing food. Out of that year of observation and growing, a plan is being developed using the latest permaculture techniques.
Finally, our fundraising team is in the process of creating plans for financial sustainability. There are several opportunities to assist financially as we move forward with the due diligence and construction.
For example, there has been a generous matching fund donation of $9000. From now until the end of November, all donations will be matched up until $9,000. That is a chance to raise a total of $18,000.
As always, any check should be made out to MA Center and mailed or given to Visala:
8201 Greenwood Ave N
Seattle WA 98103
Online donations at Amma.org are ok too. Just write in the notes section that it is for MA Center PNW and then send a copy of the confirmation email to Visala email@example.com.
Finally, the annual Holiday Bazaar is scheduled to be held on December 3rd and 4th from 1-5 PM at the Seattle Holistic Center. Stay tuned for more information.
